The first Cubist painting was not created by Braque, however, but by Pablo Picasso: Les Demoiselles d’Avignon (1907). Cubism challenged the status quo and traditional painting methods by introducing flat, geometric, two-dimensional imagery and heavy abstraction and fragmentation.
